AboutEuropean Studies Abroad was started in 2003 to promote study in Europe to New Zealand students and students studying in New Zealand. The global education phenomenon has seen education become a big income earner for NZ as students, particularly those from Asia, come here to study high school, tertiary and a range of other programmes. European Studies Abroad offers this opportunity to New Zealanders who want to study in Europe. The organisation works closely with quality providers in hotel management in Switzerland, as well as design and language schools in Italy and Spain. While New Zealand has a top quality education system, study abroad can offer a different and unique experience, not to mention internationally recognised qualifications. Managing Director Sandra McCallum has worked in the international education industry for more than 15 years. Her first introduction to the challenges of living and working abroad was as an English teacher in Tokyo, Japan. When she returned home she continued to teach English for a private institute and later became a lecturer of Economics and other business subjects. Moving to Singapore in 2000 Sandra started working for SHMS, Swiss Hotel Management School as a Regional Manager, first in Asia then Europe. Keen to encourage New Zealanders to take on the challenge of living and studying in another culture, Sandra headed back home in 2003 and started her own business, European Studies Abroad. At the same time she worked part-time for SEG, Swiss Education Group as Regional Manager – based in New Zealand but in charge of HIM, Hotel Institute Montreux in Europe! Managing European markets for a Swiss school while living in New Zealand is just one example of how the advances of technology and the internet have led to greater opportunities for New Zealanders with the right qualifications and experience. Sandra is a firm believer that “Kiwis can do anything” and “diversity is the key”. She is continually inspired by the achievements of the students that she assists to study in Europe. They are students who have ultimately given themselves an amazing life experience and an edge in their future careers.
